Karl James Mountford is an illustrator based in the oldest town in Wales, also the place where Merlin the wizard supposedly resided. He works in both Traditional and Digital mediums to make work. 

Finding inspiration in Folk art, Medieval paintings, screen printing and Pop culture to produce artwork that is modern with strong nods to nostalgia. 

Mainly working in Publishing. Specifically in book Cover illustration and design. Karl has illustrated over 80 books for all genres, worlds and authors in his ten years of working as a professional illustrator. Recently leaning into writing, Karl has illustrated and written two picture books. Both deal with themes of big feelings. 

Karl is a firm believer that all stories keep our humanity steady and stop us from becoming islands to one another. Itʼs why he loves illustrating stories so much.
